Hello, and welcome to the online home of my classroom. My name is Lindsey Warden, and I am entering my sixth year of teaching. I am certified in social science and English, and I have previously taught English, history and debate to grades 6-12, and undergraduates. I have a BA in English from Mercer University, and a MS.Ed. in Secondary Studies from Johns Hopkins University. I am also a 2015 Teach For America alumna, having served for two years in the Greater Delta.
I am a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the Tennessee Council for the Social Studies, the National Council for the Social Studies, the American Historical Association, the National Council for History Education, the National Debate Coaches Association, and the National Speech and Debate Association.
My research interests encompass project-based learning in the humanities, brain-targeted teaching, and justice-oriented curricula. I call Thompson's Station, Tennessee home, but I have lived and worked in south Georgia, north Mississippi, and my favorite place, right here in Memphis. In my free time, I enjoy travelling with my spouse, Don, and our son, Everett. Education is my absolute passion, and I am excited to learn and grow alongside my students this year.
OVERVIEW OF CLASSES
WORLD HISTORY HONORS
This course is a history survey from Early Civilizations to the Fall of Rome. We will cover civilizations in ancient Mesopotamia, Israel, Egypt, India, China, Greece, and Rome. You may view the Tennessee state standards for this course on pages 76-88 here.
SPEECH & DEBATE ELECTIVE
This course may be coded "Creative Dramatics" on your child's schedule. Speech & Debate is an introductory communications class where students will learn to speak through studying famous speeches, writing speeches, presenting speeches, performing short dramatic pieces, researching debate topics, writing debate cases, and participating in classroom debates. There will be several weekend field trip opportunities. You may view the current national debate topics here.
This Friday course can be thought of more as a guided, independent study that students engage in with groups over special topics. The two PBL experiences that I have led so far include a historic revitalization design project, and an interview/photography project.
My classroom is also home to our award-winning speech & debate team, and the current 2019-2020 Urban Debate League Champions in Public Forum Debate. Please click below to learn more about our program!
